The coronavirus pandemic is also presenting our industry with challenges we have never experienced before. What effect will the crisis have on markets and business models? What can we do to guarantee a safe and productive cooperation with partners and suppliers? How can we create the best possible service experience for our customers, whatever the circumstances? These are just some of the questions that currently occupy us all.

Unfortunately, we can’t offer you any simple answers today. Is IDS going ahead in March 2021?

IDS is going ahead as planned in Cologne from 09 to 13 March 2021. That is our declared objective, and we are rigorously implementing measures to protect everyone involved so that we can achieve it. The health and safety of our exhibitors, visitors and staff are our highest priority.

As a trade fair with a B2B focus, IDS is fundamentally different to sporting events and public fairs and festivals – a fact we will continue to highlight in our communications with the public and political decision makers. The above-mentioned measures include appropriate hygiene, maintaining sufficient distance between people at all times, and strict guidelines for the processes carried out at entrances, in the halls and at the stands. We are relying on the professional conduct of exhibitors and visitors, we will carry out a full registration of participants, and we will utilise the flexibility and size of our site as well as the opportunities offered by our digital guidance systems.

Thanks to this package of measures, we can all look forward to a successful IDS 2021!

So is it “business as usual” at IDS despite the current situation?

No – quite the opposite. We are taking the crisis as an opportunity to rethink our entire trade fair philosophy and to adapt IDS to requirements that will, after the coronavirus, certainly not be the same as before.

For a start, we know that direct personal meetings are, and will continue to be, vital for maintaining existing contacts and for developing new business opportunities. Especially in the period immediately after the shutdown, this need for proximity will play an important role when it comes to working together to find ways out of the crisis, safeguarding existing business and developing new opportunities. We are therefore designing IDS 2021 as an open forum that allows exactly this form of exchange across borders for our whole industry.

What should I bear in mind when registering and preparing for the event?

Firstly, all your contact persons at IDS are still there for you and will be happy to answer any questions you may have. They are also communicating proactively with our existing partners. Furthermore, you can also register for IDS 2021 via the usual channels, e.g. by clicking on the "Become an exhibitor" link under "Participation and planning" further up on the page.

There is no reason to wait any longer. As always: the earlier you register, the greater your choice in terms of the position of your stand. So, make sure you secure your presence at IDS 2021 now.

Should it become necessary – contrary to expectations – to postpone the date, your registration will of course remain valid for the new date.
