The infiltration method is incredibly simple:

After pretreatment with an etching gel, the »infiltrant«, a highly liquid resin, is applied to the affected area. Through capillary action, the infiltrant penetrates deep into the porous tooth enamel where it is then light-cured.

This blocks the penetration of cariogenic acids and the incipient caries can be stopped without drilling. The healthy tooth substance remains intact.
