Amalgam Carriers & Wells

Dental amalgam carriers and amalgam wells are essential tools used in restorative dentistry to place amalgam fillings.

Amalgam carriers are instruments used to carry and place amalgam filling material into the prepared cavity. They typically have a hollow cylindrical tip that is filled with amalgam, and a mechanism to eject the material into the cavity.

Here are some common types of amalgam carriers:

Lever type: These carriers have a lever that is depressed to eject the amalgam.
Plunger type: These carriers have a plunger that is pushed to eject the amalgam.
Single-ended: These carriers have a tip on one end only.
Double-ended: These carriers have tips on both ends, often with different sizes.
Amalgam wells are small, cup-shaped containers used to hold mixed amalgam before it is loaded into the amalgam carrier. They are designed to keep the amalgam in a convenient location and prevent it from drying out.

Here are some common types of amalgam wells:

Small: These wells are used for small fillings.
Large: These wells are used for large fillings.
Non-slip: These wells have a non-slip base to prevent them from moving during use.
The specific instruments used will depend on the type of restoration, the location and size of the cavity, and the dentist's preference
