Electrotechnical products must not only function properly and thus be safe
and fail-safe. They must not affect other appliances during operation, must
not cause any impermissible network repercussions and must use the radio
spectrum effectively.
All products containing radio transmitters or receivers are subject to legal
regulations worldwide. This means that certifications or registrations in the
respective countries are the basic prerequisite for placing products on the
market legally. In addition to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), such products must comply with the legal requirements applicable in the respective countries for the respective radio technology.
The VDE Institute carries out EMC and
radio tests in accordance with harmonized European standards and is a notified
body to the EU for the Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Directive 2014/30/EU
and the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU. In order to provide you with
high-quality results, our EMC and radio test center is equipped with modern test and
measurement systems. Fast measurements are guaranteed by the use of time domain
measurement techniques (TDEMI, ESR,ESW). With our large absorber hall (10 m
measurement distance) and an ultramodern fully anechoic chamber (3 m measurement
distance) with a raised floor, state-of-theart facilities are available even for large
floor-standing equipment and systems. In addition, we maintain a range of special test
facilities, such as a high-current system up to 5000 A for electronic circuit breakers and
test systems for DC charging equipment (up to 120 kW), in order to meet our customers’
requirements.
In the area of the Radio Equipment Directive
(RED) (2014/53/EU), we test safety, EMC, radio (spectrum use) and, most recently
(with Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) (2022/30)), cyber security.
We have extensive experience in the testing of combined appliances (built-in radio module).
